Day 3
Kulen Mountain & 1000 Lingas
1000 Lingas:
We will seek refuge from the city's heat by traveling 48 kilometers north of Siem Reap to explore the revered Kulen Mountains, referred to as Phnom Kulen ("Mountain of the Lychees") by the local population. The sandstone sourced from this mountain served as the primary material for construction during the Angkor Kingdom era. Our journey will include a visit to the sacred site known as The River of a Thousand Lingas, which boasts numerous lingas intricately carved into the sandstone riverbed, dating back to the 9th century. Additionally, further downstream, we will encounter large stone blocks submerged in the water, adorned with carvings of Apsara dancers and figures of Vishnu.
Mountain-top pagoda:
Next on the agenda is a visit to the mountain-top pagoda, which houses relics, statues, and a large reclining Buddha.
Kulen Waterfall:
The final stop on the mountain is Kulen Waterfall, which features a natural pool, perfect for cooling off on a hot day, and a great picnic spot, too. We will return to Siem Reap in the afternoon.
Day 4
Experience floating village life, Depart from Siem Reap
Tonle Sap Lake
We will embark on a boat excursion on Tonle Sap Lake, recognized as the largest permanent freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. This lake connects to the Tonle Sap River, which merges with the Mekong River in Phnom Penh. Our journey will take us to a distinctive "floating village" inhabited by fishermen, featuring floating schools, police stations, and various other facilities. This village resembles a large community that navigates the lake, adapting to the changing water levels and currents.
Siem Reap:
Additionally, we will visit Wat Thmey, which houses a glass-enclosed stupa containing the remains of Khmer Rouge victims, as well as Wat Bo, a revered pagoda established in the 18th century, known for its remarkable wall paintings depicting the Reamker (Ramayana) that date back to the late 19th century. (If time permitting).
Following our tours, we will transfer to Siem Reap airport for your onward journey. We appreciate your choice to travel with us and look forward to welcoming you on your next adventure.
