Neak Buos Temple

Situated alongside the Dangrek Mountain range, Prasat Neak Buos is an intriguing and expansive ancient temple complex that showcases a variety of structures made from brick, sandstone, and laterite. This remarkable site originates from the late 7th century, with further developments occurring throughout the 9th, 10th, and 11th centuries, culminating in the construction of a hospital chapel by Jayavarman VII during the 12th to 13th centuries.

An impressive brick tower ascends, showcasing four visible false floors adorned with false doors and prominent pilasters on each side. Notably, the lower portion of the temple is constructed from laterite, extending up to the height of the pediment, with brick used above that level. The structure is unusually large and faces south, featuring a standard-sized sandstone doorway that is topped by a lintel—half of which remains in place while the other half lies on the ground. 

This lintel is embellished with a frieze depicting ascetics and another figure at the top, with the central image of Indra on Airavata, flanked by well-wishers in niches, all of which are highlighted by a proud garland on the surface. Evidence of a hall above the entrance is apparent, along with the remnants of a terrace extending to the east, which includes substantial octagonal columns made of laterite.
