Terrace of the Elephants

Constructed in the late 12th century under the reign of King Jayavarman VII, the Terrace of the Elephants served as a platform for the king to greet his victorious armies upon their return from battle. Limited information is available regarding the terrace, but it is known that the original structure was built using organic materials, which have since eroded. Today, only the stone foundation remains intact.

The Terrace of the Elephants, along with the Terrace of the Leper King, offers a unique experience that cannot be found elsewhere in the park. It is an essential attraction for visitors.

The Terrace of the Elephants is situated in the Royal Square of the ancient city of Angkor Thom, approximately 400 meters north of the Bayon Temple. Nearby temples include Phimeanakas, Baphuon, Suor Prat Tower, North Khleang, Tep Pranam, and the Preah Pithu Group.

For visitors entering Angkor Thom through the South Gate, which is the most common route, proceed north past the Bayon Temple. Continue in the same direction, and the terrace will be visible on your left.

If you are entering through the eastern Victory Gate, maintain a straight path along Victory Way, and the terrace will be directly ahead. For those approaching from the North Gate, travel south for approximately 500 meters, and the terrace will appear on your right.
